Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical technique for unblocking chi (ch'i or qi) by inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang.  When yin and yang are in harmony, chi flows freely within the body and a person is healthy.  When a person is sick, diseased, or injured, there is an obstruction of chi along one of the meridians.  An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up the flow in one part of the body and restricts it in others.  Any obstruction or deficiencies of energy, blood and nerve impulses would eventually lead to disease.

Flexion-Distraction at Synergy Wellness Center in Ridgefield:
Flexion distraction therapy is a gentle technique that is designed to decompress the disc in order to relieve pressure, inflammation, and pain in the low back while restoring proper range of motion. This particular type of manipulation consists of a gentle stretch or traction on the lower spine with a series of repetitive slow movements in all ranges of motion. This technique is often used to help relieve pain from disc herniations, sciatica, acute low back pain, leg pain, chronic low back pain, and failed back surgery.

Adjustments and exercises can help improve foot stability throughout the gait cycle, however, due to the type and amount of stress we put on our feet during everyday activity orthotics are usually necessary for long-term support. A custom made foot orthotic helps bring the ground up to the foot at predetermined angles so that the foot is supported in its optimal neutral position. By realigning the foot with the body, the rest of the joints and muscles can work more efficiently, thus helping to reduce or eliminate pain.There are different styles of orthotics available that are designed to fit a wide variety of shoe gear.
